A.W.Thomas Girls’ Home
A.W.Thomas Girls’ Home is a Home run by the KJP Assembly which was set up in the name of a Wales Missionary Mrs. Annie Woosencraft Thomas on 4 th November, 1981 AT Jaiaw Lumsyntiew, Shillong with an aim to ensure and cater all the basic needs, rights and safety of underprivileged children residing in every corner and villages of Meghalaya. For all those years the Home was run under a church based foundation in taking care and protect the under privileged children from all forms of exploitation and abuse. It was only after the implementation of Integrated Child Protection Scheme (ICPS) under Social Welfare Department, Meghalaya, and the Home got registered under Juvenile Justice Act, 2000 on 1 st August, 2013. Therefore, till date the Home has catered their support and helps more than 500 children in terms of physical, mental, moral, spiritual and economic development.
At present, the home has 45 children from the age 7yrs-17yrs; all this children are in formal education at KJP School, Mawkhar and the Home has 10 staffs in which 5 staffs are staying in the premises of the institution in looking after the safety and well-being of the children and 5 staffs are coming daily from their home.
